TRANSMISSION LINE LEAKAGE CURRENT MEASUREMENT

Measuring leakage current in transmission lines is a critical aspect of maintaining the integrity and reliability of the electrical grid. Following these application notes will help you make accurate measurements and take appropriate actions to address any issues identified during the testing process.
Transmission tower leakage current values can vary depending on several factors, including the tower's design, the condition of its insulators, the environmental conditions, and the grounding system. Leakage current measurements are essential for assessing the health and integrity of transmission towers and their associated grounding systems. The specific values are not universally standardized and can differ among power companies and standards organizations.
Importance of Measuring Leakage Currents
Structural Integrity: Leakage currents can accelerate corrosion of metallic components on transmission towers. Over time, this corrosion weakens the structure and can lead to structural failures, posing a significant safety risk.
Reliability: Excessive leakage currents can interfere with the proper functioning of protective devices and grounding systems. This interference can result in operational failures and prolonged downtime during maintenance.
Power Quality: Leakage currents can introduce unwanted electrical noise into the grid, affecting the overall power quality and potentially causing equipment malfunctions

M-340LX is an AC Low Voltage Leakage Clamp Meter, intended to be used in measuring leakage current in overhead lines. Because if its intended use this clamp is characterized with high accuracy and sensitivity. Additionally, the clamp can be upgraded with an insulation extinction rod (Hot Stick), so it can be used to measure from a safe distance.
The clamp meter sends the measurement results to an app on a smartphone. Also, the data can be remembered to a .csv file. The mobile app visualizes the data on a user-friendly interface. The app shows the measurement results, and the measured waveform.
M-340LX is shock and drop resistant, and it has max circuit voltage of 600 V.
This clamp can be used in both transmission and distribution overhead lines for leakage current measurements. Also for low voltage overhead lines this clamp can be used for line current measurements.
